Health research is essential to provide a platform for evidence based policy and practice. It helps to recruit and retain enthusiastic health professionals as participation in research is an important non salary incentive. The Green Party considers that research on the wider determinants of health and on the efficacy of interventions and programmes to promote and protect health form an important element of an evidence-based approach to policy making that these areas deserve a higher priority than they have traditionally received.
