Following the action by the EU Commission for breaches of EU Directives this week, the Green Party today called on the Taoiseach and the Minister for the Environment to urgently investigate why the Ringsend plant was still in its commissioning phase two years after it was officially opened by the Taoiseach.

Green Party Councillor, Bronwen Maher, has called for independent analysis of the Irish Exporters Association's claim that Irish export business will suffer unless Dublin Port goes ahead and infills 51 acres of Dublin Bay. Green Party Chairman, John Gormley TD, today welcomed the decision of the European Commission to pursue legal action against Ireland for breaches of EU environmental law, including a failure to put in place rules for preventing serious odour problems from the Ringsend wastewater treatment plant.

Greens respond to Harney?s ?crazy policies? jibe

Green Party Finance spokesperson Dan Boyle TD, responding to Tanaiste Mary Harney?s crazy policies jibe, said today that, ?The Tanaiste states that the Green Party would heavily tax industry whereas her ?sensible? approach is to allow industry to pollute to whatever extent it wishes. Mary Harney?s logic is that the profits of industry will pay for the environmental and health consequences. In particular, as Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney should be concerned at the health implications.?
