Green Party Leader extends sympathy to family of former TD and Workers' Party Leader
Green Party leader and Minister of Environment John Gormley today said he was very sorry to hear of the death of former Workers' Party leader Tomas MacGiolla.
“I served with Tomás MacGiolla on Dublin City Council in the 1990s and in fact succeeded him as Lord Mayor of Dublin in the summer of 1994. I know that his term as Lord Mayor was a very special time for Tomás and his wife, May,” Mr Gormley said.
“I've always believed that - whether you agreed with Tomás or not - he was always a man of strong political convictions and he worked in politics to defend the interests of working class people. I extend my sincere sympathy to May and the other members of his family,” concluded Mr Gormley.
