Political: Local elections, June 1999 topped the poll in Borris three-seater for Carlow County CouncilOctober 2001 Appointed Deputy Leader of the Green Party.2002 General Election, Candidate for the Carlow/Kilkenny constituency. Received 4961 First Preference Votes, 8% of poll. (Canvassingfor this seat Mary walked over 3,000 miles the equivalent of walking to Berlin and back! ) Ran for Seanad in 2002 but narrowly missed out on gaining a seat.
Personal: Born in Co. Wicklow, Mary White has lived in Borris, Co. Carlow for over twenty years. Married to Robert, they have one daughter, Dorothy Ellen
Educated at the Ursuline Convent, Waterford and Trinity College Dublin.
Founder member of the English Society at Trinity College and was awarded a "Pink" at University for sporting excellence
Mary is an organic grower and a keen hillwalker.
Written a Walkguide to the Blackstairs with Joss Lynam, and "Environment Mining and Politics" - an account of an anti-mining campaign which acts as a bible for DIY environmental campaigners
