Carers' Policy
Introduction
Despite the expressed concern for Quality of Life espoused by the State, the burden of providing Community Care is borne largely by a family carer in the home. This enormous contribution to Community Care is generally unrecognised, unpaid and taken for granted. The Green Party believes that the burden for providing such care should not be left almost solely within the remit of a family carer in the home as it is at present.
Some key points:
- The provision of support services with a strong input from Carers.
- A Community Development model should be used as a basis to develop the provision of support services and to develop strategies to deliver support and other services for Carers
- The provision of adequate respite care both for short spells and for longer periods
- The inclusion of Carers in the National Partnership process
