Forestry
Introduction
Our aims and policies are designed to return major areas of land to their climax vegetation. From the functional and economic point of view, trees are one of the most important renewable and sustainable resources available to this country. Trees are also of great aesthetic value and contribute to the lives of all of us.
Some Key Points
The creation of community forests, owned, managed and used by the local population
Support for small co-operative forestry enterprises as part of a decentralised state system
Promotion of agro-forestry as an integral part of all farm development programmes; encourage farm woodlands.
Generous grants for the planting of native and broadleaved species and for forest management systems that practice selective felling (as opposed to clear-felling) and coppicing.
The use of biological control of pests, and organic fertilisers and discourages the use of inorganic fertilisers and pesticides.
