Nuclear near misses - is Sellafield next?
Cllr. Mary White, Green Party Deputy Leader and European candidate for the East, said today that she was horrified by the admission from the British Ministry of Defence that a large military aircraft had come within a few hundred feet of Chapelcross, Scotland's oldest and most vulnerable nuclear plant.
"I am appalled that the Ministry of Defence has covered up this security breach at Chapelcross nuclear power station in Dumfries, and that five more security incidents at other nuclear plants in England over the last couple of years have been admitted to."
"It is just a matter of time before something this serious happens at Sellafield, which would potentially devastate the whole of the east coast of Ireland. We must increase the safety of Sellafield and of all the nuclear power stations in Europe which could be easy targets for terrorist attacks," concluded Cllr. Mary White.
