Greens lament loss of prolific artistic ambassador and heritage campaigner
Green Party Communications | 26.04.2012 | Back to News | News Archive

It was with great sadness that the Green Party learnt of the death one of Ireland's most celebrated modernist artists who documented all facets of Irish culture.

Green Party Spokesperson for the Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Rian Coulter, said: "Louis le Brocquy was a wonderfully progressive artist, who played a seminal role in the development of modern Irish art. His signature style and fearless subject matter were groundbreaking, leaving the Irish nation with cherished cultural assets and international pride."

"Furthermore, he was a principled campaigner who generously supported heritage campaigns, notably Save Tara."

"Louis le Brocquy will be greatly missed, but has left an indelible mark on Irish culture. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Anne and sons Pierre and Alexis," continued Rian Coulter.

"Better pass boldly into that other world, in the full glory of some passion, than fade and wither dismally with age. – James Joyce"

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis."
