The Green Party/Comhaontas Glas is delighted to announce that Catherine Martin has been selected as the new Green Party Councillor on Carrickmacross Town Council. Catherine is a secondary school teacher and an accomplished musician. She was educated at the local St. Louis Primary and Secondary Schools and at N.U.I. Maynooth. Cllr. Catherine Martin said that she was deeply honoured to be selected by the local Green Party to serve on the Council, ‘it is a privilege to represent my town and I am looking forward to working very hard for the betterment of all the people of Carrickmacross.’

She said that, along with her colleague Cllr. Kristina Jankaitiene, they are keen to develop further on the close links which the town has already established with the Green Party Ministers especially in the business sector as the creation of more jobs has to be the priority. The close relationship and access which the people of Carrickmacross have had with the Green Ministers has been firmly established by retiring town councillor Vincent P Martin and I believe this will prove to be an invaluable resource to the local community.

She stated that she is looking forward to providing regular clinics for the people of Carrick and amongst other things, intends to use her elected position to highlight educational needs, support for the elderly, tackling climate change and the creation of green jobs. Catherine who comes from one of the oldest families in the town is married to well known local artist and architect Francis Noel Duffy.

Cavan Monaghan Green Party Chairman, Brian Connolly said that he was delighted with the unanimous choice of the local Green Party membership adding, 'Catherine is a very able and committed person. She has been a very active member of the local Green Party and has always been her brother Vincent's campaign manager so she is familiar with the workings of local politics’.

Green Party Leader and Environment Minister John Gormley T.D wished Catherine the very best and said that the local party organisation was very fortunate to be in position select someone of Catherine’s calibre. She has a well deserved reputation as a hardworking and talented person. She was also one of our numerous party members who successfully lobbied to reverse some of the education cuts which featured in the recent Programme for Government.
