Help us campaign for a Greener Ireland
Town Councillor for Ardee Town Council
Biography
Mary has been a teacher in the Community School in Ardee for the last 30 years. She has had a long and friendly connection with many families in the Mid-Louth area and has encouraged the integration and involvement of young people in many community art projects. She is married to Pat Kavanagh and they have four grown children.
She first came to the public attention in 1994 when she and three others from around County Louth, took a court action against British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL), to seek an end to reprocessing at Sellafield. During the 10 years of the court action, Mary and her colleagues kept the issue of the Sellafield threat to the fore and eventually forced the Irish Government to become pro-actively opposed to the Sellafield nuclear project.
