Green Party call on government preserve transport link between Rosslare and France in the context of Brexit

Green Party Senator and Ireland South MEP candidate Grace O’Sullivan is calling on Minister Brendan Griffin to work to maintain the link between Rosslare and France as part of the government’s Brexit preparations.

This crucial infrastructure link is under threat after Irish Ferries announced they are ‘unlikely’ to continue the ferry service between Rosslare and France in 2019.

Senator O’Sullivan said:

“This is ferry link is a vital gateway for both freight and passengers coming to the South East. It is very important to the economic and social life of the region.

“The connection between Ireland and France will be crucial in the years ahead, as Brexit threatens to change the way we trade with Britain and the rest of Europe.

“To lose this vital trade route at this time is reckless.

“We must maintain and develop this link as part of our Brexit planning. It is clear that Minister of State Brendan Griffin and Transport Minister Shane Ross have been blindsided by this development they need however to react fast and intervene to secure this ferry service.”
