Green Party response to the Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael joint framework document

The Green Party today have written to the leaders of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael in response to the joint framework document. The party are seeking clarity on a number of issues before agreeing to enter formal negotiations.

Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan said:

“The country is experiencing hard times right now and it can be difficult to see out the other side of it.

“But where we go to now as a country really matters. We need the next government to be one that delivers real change.

“The recovery has to get us out of the immediate crisis and set us on the right long-term path. A ‘Green New Deal’ is just that approach.

“We are asking a number of questions of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael to try and establish how we might deliver that kind of change.

“We have prepared a number of questions that seek clarity on issues including emissions targets, energy, housing, well-being, social justice, biodiversity, and economic projections.

“The Covid-19 crisis presents one of the greatest challenges in the history of the State. But it is at this moment that we must look to the future and work together on a new common cause.”
