Green Party stands in solidarity with US protesters

The Green Party has expressed its deepest sympathy and solidarity with the family of George Floyd. “George Floyd lost his life because a person, using his position of power, pressed his knee to his throat for over eight minutes and it killed him” said the Party’s Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Senator Pauline O’Reilly.

“The Green Party stands in solidarity with all people of colour and all those who experience racism. Each time we are shocked by incidents of police brutality, but we must stand shoulder to shoulder with each other, now more than ever. The words ‘I can’t breathe’ echo through generations and call on us all to act decisively wherever we find racism and to finally bring this to an end.”

Senator O’Reilly said: “I want to thank the many black rights, anti-racism, and minority rights organisations who have campaigned tirelessly and for many years in Ireland to end racial injustice and discrimination. Our representatives around the country have been attending online vigils and protests organised and led by migrants and people of colour, and we will continue to support these groups as they work to highlight the racism endemic in our own society.”
