David Healy, Green Councillor for Howth/Malahide area welcomed Irish Water’s announcement at the oral hearing into its proposed new sewage treatment plant that it will apply ultraviolet disinfection to the effluent from the plant.
“This is something which local people, fishermen, swimmers and divers have all been looking for, to protect public health. I welcome the fact that Irish Water have accepted the need to disinfect the effluent. I am still concerned at the location of the outfall so close to Ireland’s Eye, a Special Area of Conservation and intensively used for both fishing and recreational uses, and will be raising the inadequacy of the site selection process during the hearing.”
