Irish Aid must continue to be supported

The Green Party has welcomed the findings of the most recent report from the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC) on Ireland’s contribution to global development cooperation. The report (available here) released yesterday highlights Ireland’s outsized and positive role in development aid, particularly praising Irish Aid’s focus on developing strong relationships with Civil Society Organisations.

Welcoming the OECD report launched today, Green Party Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Senator Pauline O’Reilly said:

A programme for government must build on the good work of Ireland in relation to development aid. We must take our global responsibilities seriously and that means financial and organisational support.
As serious as the economic implications of Covid-19 are in Ireland, they do not compare to the potential impacts of the virus, and indeed of climate breakdown, in the global south.
“Now is the time to take on board the recommendations of the OECD for Ireland and to increase our ambition”
