My vision for Roscommon-Galway
I want Roscommon-Galway to fully benefit from the opportunities of transitioning to a greener economy. My vision is of healthy, vibrant and inclusive communities that are more sustainable, adaptable and resilient.
What I stand for
I value social equality and believe that our economy needs to be people-centred to ensure that a good quality of life is affordable for everyone. I believe that we need to invest in environmental actions that will protect workers and bring benefits for local economies and communities while safeguarding our children’s future.
- The Climate and Biodiversity Emergency is the most critical challenge that we have ever faced. We need strong policies and legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to protect nature and to avoid large EU fines from not meeting our legal, environmental obligations.
- To ensure a just transition for Roscommon-Galway, we need increased investment in activities such as sustainable and resilient agriculture, ecotourism, forestry, retrofitting programmes, rural transport and community-led renewable energy.
- I believe in equality for all and will stand against discrimination in all its forms to ensure a good quality of life for everyone and communities that are based on equality, respect, dignity and inclusivity.
- We need increased investment in our education system, including early years care and education. Education should be accessible, inclusive and affordable. Increasing the provision of multi-denominational and secular schools will provide greater educational choice.
I am a secondary school teacher living in Roscommon with my husband and two young children. I have volunteered with organisations at both local and national level. I served on the National Committee of the charity “Friends of Breastfeeding” for two years and I organise a local peer support group for parents and children. I campaigned with “Roscommon Together for Yes” on the repeal of the 8th Amendment and reproductive rights. As a founding member of “Plastic Free Roscommon” and member of a number of environmental groups, I have organised events on sustainability, plastic waste reduction and climate action.
