Remove private healthcare from new children’s hospital: Greens

The Green Party/An Comhaontas Glas call on the Minister of Health Simon Harris to clarify whether he sanctioned the decision by Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) to build a private clinic in the new National Children’s Hospital.

Green Party Health Spokesperson Séamus McMenamin said:

“The Slaintecare report signed up to by all parties in the Dáil agreed a blueprint to work towards a single tier health service. This decision, to allow a private clinic to be built inside the new Children’s Hospital, seems to confirm that the Government are lukewarm at best on this report. We need to remove private healthcare from the new hospital and prepare for a single tier system now.

“Given the significant sums of money involved in constructing this hospital, taxpayers could have been forgiven in thinking they would see the benefits. It appears now that unless you have private Insurance you will have a less equal relationship with the Hospital than if you do”
