Roderic O’Gorman

Teachta Dála for Dublin West

Spokesperson for Justice and Equality

My vision for Dublin West

I want Dublin West to be a safe, clean, and attractive place to live, work and raise a family.

What I stand for

I believe that we can have a thriving economy and reinvest back into our communities, supporting education, health and childcare services and providing a safe and clean environment for everyone.

My priorities

  • Make public transport cheap and effective by upgrading the Maynooth Line to DART standard, building the new Pelletstown train station, cutting journey times on all our bus routes and making cycling safer.
  • Ensure that people in Dublin West can buy affordable and good quality homes. For those who don’t wish to buy, keep rents at reasonable rates and provide new social housing.
  • Support families in how they choose to get childcare and invest in education, particularly supporting kids who have special educational needs.
  • Protect and improve the environment both locally and globally and promote policies that improve human and environmental health

My experience

I’ve been an elected member of Fingal County Council since 2014. As a member of the Council’s Transportation Policy Committee I have focused on issues like safe cycling and improving bus and train services. I’ve engaged with the Gardaí on issues like community policing and addressing domestic violence through my membership of the Fingal Joint Policing Committee. As a member of the Education Training Board (ETB) I’ve gained a huge insight into educational issues, through sitting on the board of management of Castleknock Community College, Pobail Setanta, Coolmine Community School and Scoil Choilm. Professionally, I work as a law lecturer in Dublin City University, where I lecture EU and Planning law. I am also a member of DCU’s Brexit Institute.
