Introducing Malcolm Noonan TD


Malcolm Noonan was first elected as a Green Party Councillor to Kilkenny County Council and Kilkenny Borough Council in 2004, topping the poll on both. He served as Mayor of Kilkenny in 2009, contested the leadership of the Green Party in 2011 and was elected to Dáil Éireann in February 2020.

Malcolm has been an environmental and community activist for over thirty years, serving as a Director of Friends of the Earth Ireland, working in mental health and suicide prevention, with Travellers and migrants and as a gardener using his skills to plant community orchards and develop school food programmes.

His academic background varies from graphic design to rural development and he is currently studying towards an MA in International Development at NUIM.

He has held a number of spokesperson portfolios within the Green Party; Environment, Heritage and most recently; Community and Rural Development.

Malcolm is also a visual artist and musician. He is married to Jennie; an outdoor education pre-school practitioner and they have four children ranging in age from seventeen to five. In his spare time he likes to sleep.
