The Green Party would like to congratulate Councillor Mal O’Hara on his uncontested selection as the new leader of Green Party Northern Ireland.

Cllr O’Hara, who was the party’s deputy leader, hails from north Belfast and has represented the Castle ward on Belfast City Council since 2019. He succeeds Clare Bailey, former MLA.

Catherine Martin TD, Deputy Leader of the Green Party stated;

“Cllr O’Hara has long been a strong advocate for climate, communities and equality. He has been a wonderful Deputy Leader of the Green Party in Northern Ireland and I have no doubt he will make an excellent Leader. We look forward to continuing to support the Party’s growth under his leadership and vision.

“I would also like to thank Clare Bailey who has been an inspiring leader and a valued colleague. She leaves an incredible legacy, having secured hard-fought climate legislation for Northern Ireland, as well as passing landmark legislation on Safe Access Zones, gender equality and much more during her time as an MLA.”
