The package of spending put forward by the Ruling Group on Dublin City Council, led by the Green Party, Labour Party, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael, would see an increase of €16.4million to the city budget, with the proposal to spend the money with the following allocations:

  • Housing Maintenance €5,417,053
  • Roads Maintenance, Footpath and Carriageway improvement €3,000,000
  • Revolving Fund, Urban Regeneration and Vacant Properties €3,000,000
  • Additional Apprentices €1,000,000
  • Zebra Crossing €1,000,000
  • Discretionary Fund €1,000,000
  • Repayments of Borrowing for Key Infrastructural Projects €2,000,000

It is proposed that the base rate of local property tax should stand over the next four years, bringing in an extra €65m to the city for vital infrastructure.

Councillor Janet Horner, who led the negotiations for the Green Party says “This is a strong and progressive package. Improving the conditions of the Council Housing in the city is an important priority for the Green Party. People should not be living with single glazed windows, with mould and cold, damp conditions in our flat complexes. This spending commitment marks a genuine commitment to addressing that injustice.

This spending will invest in the things that matters to everyone in the city- addressing dereliction, improving our roads, rolling out more zebra crossings and ensuring the important work the Green Party are doing to advance quality of life in the city keeps going. I am proud of what we are offering to Dubliners through this spending plan.
