The Green Party welcomes the recent decision by Trinity College Dublin (TCD) to cut ties with Israeli universities and companies.

Eva Dowling, Green Party spokesperson for Higher Education and Stillorgan councillor welcomed the decision:

"TCD students and staff should be commended for taking the brave decision to effectively cut ties with Israel in the wake of ongoing war crimes and genocide in Gaza.Boycott, divestment, and sanctions are tangible actions that will stand up against this brutal offensive in Gaza. That ongoing research projects will not be impacted shows that the right balance has been struck by the university.

“Other Irish third level institutions should follow suit and end academic and economic relations with Israeli institutions and companies for the foreseeable future.”

Janet Horner, Green Party spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defence and Dublin North Inner City councillor said:

"It is important to use every lever available at all levels to stand up for justice in Palestine and resist the ongoing genocide. I commend the staff and students at TCD who have pushed for this move, that is not without cost to the university, and for the precedent that it sets for other universities and institutions in Ireland and internationally.

“The Irish Government must follow the lead of the people across Ireland to enact the Occupied Territories Bill and demand sanctions against Israel from EU.”
